A synthesis of the tendencies and personalities in Romanian theatre of the last 30 years: panel with Cristina Modreanu, Marian Popescu and Carmen Lidia Vidu.
A special issue of Scena.ro performing arts magazine — a publication that celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2018 — in English and French will include a selection of texts which illuminate the evolution of Romanian theatre during the 30 years since the fall of the Berlin wall. In addition to shedding light on generations of talented playwrights, this issue focuses on the relationship between theatre and society, as well as the most significant trends in the field.

Scena.ro offers a much-needed testimony of post-1990’s Romanian culture, an era still haunted by a lack of representation in collective consciousness. The publication helps circulate essential information about the Romanian performing arts scene and the country’s intellectual legacy as embodied on stage.

This extraordinary edition will include interviews with major figures in contemporary Romanian theatre, articles and commentaries by well-known Romanian critics, and a variety of photo materials which illustrate how Romanian theatre has evolved over the past three decades.

The magazine will be presented at BOZAR, followed by a panel discussion with Cristina Modreanu, editor-in-chief Scena.ro, Marian Popescu, performing arts expert, and Carmen Lidia Vidu, theatre and film director, and video presentation dedicated to contemporary Romanian theatre.
