„Marin Sorescu” National Theater in Craiova (Romania) is launching the open call for the sixth edition of the International Young Theatre Directors Showcase

International Festival Dedicated to Young Theatre Directors
6^th edition (Craiova, 2-6 July 2024)

„Marin Sorescu“ National Theatre is happy to announce that open call for the 6^th edition of TNT dedicated to the newly graduated alumni, from Theater Directing University programs, in Romania and abroad. The Festival, that has become a significant & established launching point for emerging artists is especially addressed to the graduates of the 2024 classes (BA or MA programs), who are invited to apply with their graduation productions, until May 6, 2024.

Designed as an artistic platform for showcasing the most innovative and powerful visions by the next generation of theater creators, the festival coordinated by theater director Bobi Pricop will bring to Craiova, between the 2^nd and 6^th of July, artists from all fields of the performing arts, with alternative experiences, experimental work. The focus this year is on the playwrights and translators, in the field of performing arts.

TNT Festival, organized by the „Marin Sorescu” National Theater and the Department of Arts & Media within the University of Craiova offers the new generation of theatre directors the chance to present their graduation performances on the stage of a professional theatre, within a showcase, in front of an audience made of theater managers, independent producers or festival selectors. It also welcomes actors, scenographers, composers, choreographers, performers, theater scholars or researchers, through the People of TNT program.

The festival will also include interdisciplinary theatre practices, cultural debates, audio and visual installations, talks, workshops and many more. On TNT’s YouTube channel, there will be available, before the start of this current edition, interviews with the artists who took part in the previous one.

We are also announcing the launch of applications for People of TNT (for artists & collaborators of theatre directors: scenographers, composers, playwrights, choreographers, performers, translators, sound, light & video designers, theatre directing graduates of the last ten years, students (BA and MA), PhDs, members of the academia, from the theatre universities.)

The festival is non-competitive, focusing on opening conversations, cultural dialogues, creating a meeting space for artists, audience and cultural producers. At the closing ceremony of the festival, the theatre managers and artistic directors are invited to announce the future collaborations with the theatre directors showcasing their productions within TNT. Six of the graduates who presented their performances in the 2022 edition were invited by Romanian theaters all over the country to stage a production in the following theater season: National Theater in Craiova, Excelsior Theater in Bucharest, Nord Theater Satu-Mare, Prichindel Theater in Alba-Iulia, „Elvira Godeanu” Theater in Târgu-Jiu and the German State Theater in Timișoara.

This year, two of the young directors who showcased their productions in 2023, on the TNT stages, were nominated for the UNITER (Romanian Theatre Awards), for the „Best Director“ category, with the shows staged after their selection at TNT:  Irisz Kovacs, with „TSCHICK. Why We Took the Car“, produced  by the German State Theatre Timișoara and Natasza Sołtanowicz, for „Anomaly“, produced by the National Theatre Craiova.

Where:
Craiova, one of the most important student centers in Romania, will once again become the stage for a young, bold and surprising theater experience.

The productions will be performed at the National Theater „Marin Sorescu” in Craiova (Amza Pellea Hall, Ion D. Sîrbu Hall, Atelier Hall) and at the Department of Arts & Media within the University of Craiova (Studio Hall and Buia Auditorium).

How to apply:

• festival is addressed to freshly graduated students (BA or MA programs) of theatre directing, who got / or are going to receive their degree by the summer of 2024;
• in order to apply, the participants can send production proposals until the 6^th of May 2024, to the e-mail address tntcraiova@gmail.com, alongside the following info:

Name of the show (*or the play)

Name of the director of the production, CV of the director

A transfer link with the recording of the performance (in case the production is not completed by April 30, the applicants will send a written or video presentation in which the participants describe the concept of the show, their motivation in entering the festival and also a 15-30 minute video recording of a relevant rehearsal.)

The application form – filled with all the info (the names of the production team that will travel to Craiova)

– for the productions that are not in Romanian or English, English subtitles are required.

-in order to apply, the participants (actors, collaborators of theatre directors: scenographers, composers, playwrights, choreographers, performers, translators, sound, light & video designers, theatre directing graduates of the last ten years, students (BA and MA), PhDs, members of the academia, from the theatre universities) are invited to send a CV and also a portfolio, to the e-mail address tntcraiova@gmail.com, until the 6^th of May 2024.

Important:

The festival will cover the costs of meals and accommodation for all participants – for the teams participating in the Young Directors Festival showcase, as well as for those taking part in the People of TNT section.

The list of participants and the final selection will be announced until the 1^st of June, 2024.
